2000 - Molten Chicken

Molten Chicken’ was the first of a new breed of human powered vehicle.

After a string of lowly performances by Bendigo Senior Secondary College as their students pushed the limits of innovation and conventional thinking, one year 11 team decided it was time to go back to basics and combine the best ideas from the previous 3 years.

The result: the fastest vehicle the college had produced in its 9-year history and its first ever RACV Energy Breakthrough outright 24-hour trial winner.

Molten Chicken set a new Distance Record of 767kms in 24-hours, and received an RACV Safety Award for the numerous rider protection devices that were integrated into construction. Their winning margin was only 80 seconds as they hit the line, and B.S.S.C prevailed for its reliability and determination – despite two rollovers and a spectator throwing an egg onto the vehicle's windscreen.

Three members of Molten Chicken have been involved in Bendigo Youth Racing.
