The team of 4 males and 4 females worked tirelessly throughout the year to prepare themselves and the vehicle in the pursuit of a college first – to win the male/female category at the RACV Energy Breakthrough. Their crowd-stopping performance in the Display and Presentation gave them BSSC’s first award in this category in 5 years, and as 1pm Saturday rolled around, traditional class favourites Berwick and Wonthaggi Secondary Colleges began to worry.

During the race, the team was hammered by the opposition – literally – a number of forced rollovers tested the strength of the vehicle and team Bubaluii’s mental toughness.
Amazingly, the college’s second ever full carbon fibre frame held up much better than its 2001 predecessor, Whip It, despite the fact that it was the lightest vehicle ever produced at BSSC. (25.5kg)

They charged on, nailed down 1st place in their class, recorded the second fastest lap of the race and held onto third place overall all the way to the line.

They finished up 42 laps or 55kms ahead of Berwick Secondary’s half male/ half female team, and by traveling 790 kms, Bubaluii set a new Total Distance Record in their category, and only the second male/female team to finish in the overall top three ever.

Four members of Bubaluii have been involved in Bendigo Youth Racing.
